Carpet Care Tips

Proper maintenance helps extend the life of your carpet!

Proper care and maintenance will extend your carpet's life and keep it looking great for many years.

The following steps will help keep your carpet healthy and clean:

  • Vacuum your carpet three times a week (heavily trafficked may require more).
  • Remove stains and spills promptly.
  • Have your carpet cleaned and protected at least once a year, or more often if you have children or pets

Regular Vacuuming

The most important step in taking care of your carpet is vacuuming. Vacuum thoroughly and frequently, particularly in high-traffic areas, to remove the dry soil. Dry soil works its way down into the pile, scratching carpet fibers and leading to premature wear of the carpet. High-traffic areas might need to be vacuumed daily. Change the vacuuming direction occasionally to help stand the pile upright and prevent matting. All vacuum bags should be checked often and replaced when 1/2 to 2/3 full.

Stain Removal

Scoop up or absorb as much of the spill as possible. Blot the spill, don't rub or scrub the carpet. Gently press clean, white cloths into the stained area to remove moisture. Scrubbing can damage carpet fibers. Apply warm, not hot, water to the stained area and blot until the stain stops transferring to the cloth.

If you can still see the stain, make a cleaning solution by adding 1/4 teaspoon dishwashing liquid to one cup warm water. Apply a small amount of the cleaning solution and continue to blot the area with a dry, white cloth. Repeat as necessary, but avoid over wetting the carpet. Rinse with clear warm water. Blot with paper towels. Repeat until the cleaning solution is removed. Place layers of white paper towels on the spill to absorb the liquid. Blot, do not rub. When the carpet is dry, vacuum to restore the texture. If the stain remains, call us or schedule an online appointment and we will gladly remove the stain for you.
